UNION**The United Workers Union is seeking a highly motivated Industrial Officer to lead our Queensland Industrial team, to be based in Brisbane.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a team of Industrial Officers to resolve individual and collective issues effectively and in the process build union membership;
  • Ensure the work of the team assists to retain union members, encourage new members to join, and increase member participation in their union;
  • Manage a caseload which includes resolving workplace issues by providing industrial advice to members and advocacy with employers and before industrial tribunals to ensure that members' entitlements are being enforced;
  • Work with the Deputy Director to supervise, manage and allocate workload within the team;
  • Train, mentor and develop the industrial knowledge and standards within the team;
  • Other duties associated with ensuring a high standard is maintained to provide assistance to Union members;
  • Ensure that the Union's values of equity, diversity and inclusion are upheld and promoted.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

The Lead Industrial Officer demonstrates:

  • Passion and drive to improve workers' lives and help grow the union movement
  • Ability in managing expectations around dispute resolution;
  • Ability in using legislation, awards and agreements to enforce member's rights and entitlements;
  • A solid knowledge and understanding of the Australian industrial relations environment;
  • Significant experience in advocacy, preferably through the Fair Work Commission or relevant Courts;
  • Experience in managing a team (desirable);
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Whilst not a requirement of the position, the holding of a Practicing Certificate or the ability to obtain a Practicing Certificate will be beneficial.

To perform this job, you will also be required to have or obtain and maintain:

  • Right of Entry Permits
  • Immunisation against COVID19 or have a medical exemption

REMUNERATION
An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which will include:

  • Salary commensurate with demonstrated skills and experience (indicative range $103,941 to $139,089);
  • 16% superannuation;
  • 6 weeks annual leave plus 25% leave loading;
  • Payment of practicing certificates; and
  • Generous other leave and conditions.
