Job Description:


Menzies Health Institute Queensland (MHIQ) is seeking highly motivated and qualified casual Research Assistants to join our Improving Health Outcomes for people with cancer (ihop) Program of research within the Healthy Lifestyles Group and Healthcare Practice and Survivorship stream.


The position will provide administrative assistance to the Director, Professor Sandi Hayes, and senior Staff members and will contribute to research group activities.

Specifically, this role provides research support and clinical expertise to support a Phase III Clinical Trial and ensure high quality research outcomes.

The Clinical Trial is evaluating the effect of an exercise and dietary intervention versus usual care in Queensland women with metastatic breast cancer.

As a casual Research Assistant, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Undertake delivery of a dietary intervention that involves individualized, dietary prescription, support and advice to meet research intervention targets.
  • Conducting field work and experimental research, specifically in the area of cancer survivorship and rehabilitation.
  • Assisting with research duties such as data collection, data entry and preliminary analysis of data, drafting reports and scholarly articles in accordance with research protocols.
  • Undertaking literature searches, conducting qualitative interviews, and routine scientific testing.
  • Coordinating meetings between researchers and external participants as required.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, including research ethics, equity, health & safety, laboratory standards, and exhibit good practice in relation to the same.

What we can offer
This is a casual position and is primarily based at the Griffith University Nathan campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.

The casual hourly rate for a Research Assistant will range from $ $49.08 per hour + 17% superannuation.


Qualifications:

The successful applicant will have a Bachelor's degree with Honors or an equivalent combination of qualifications and/or experience.


The successful applicant must have a Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics with eligibility for Accredited Practicing Dietitian status with the Dieticians Association of Australia, as well as previous working experience as a practicing dietitian.

The occupant must also have a current First Aid/CPR Certificate.

You will also have, but not limited to:

Essential:

  • Experience in delivering dietary advice and support to chronic disease populations.
  • Experience in research assistant activities such as conducting data collection, participant recruitment, data entry, conducting literature searches, liaising with participants, etc.
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently as required.
  • Knowledge of research ethics, equity, health & safety, and laboratory standards.

Ideal:

  • Experience in delivering dietary advice and support to cancer patients.
  • An interest in being involved in cancer survivorship research and would consider future postgraduate research enrolment.
