The Role

  • The Head of Commercial Finance is a senior leadership role responsible for elevating and leading the Commercial Finance capability and team. This role will play a pivotal role in shaping the Cashrewards financial strategy, ensuring financial stability, and fostering growth.


Your leadership will elevate the capability of commercial finance, transitioning from a support function to a strategic and proactive, value adding business partner to the executive and senior leadership teams (ELT and SLT).

You will lead and mentor the team fostering professional growth, collaboration, and a culture of continuous improvement to create a high performing team.


  • This role will be a key player to deliver the annual and longterm strategic, financial plans and budgets for Cashrewards. You will have the opportunity to present and provide strategic commercial advice to the executive leadership team, and instill confidence with our investor 1835i, the venture capital arm of the ANZ bank, as well as key stakeholders within ANZ.

Your Focus:


  • Collaborate with ELT and SLT to develop and execute longterm financial strategies aligned with business objectives, growth initiatives, and market dynamics.
  • Provide financial insights, analysis, and recommendations to support key business decisions, new ventures, investments, and strategic partnerships, both on a periodic and adhoc, proactive basis.
  • Conduct thorough financial analysis of projects, products, and markets to identify growth opportunities, costsaving measures, and areas for operational improvement.
  • Lead the development and delivery of the annual budgeting process working collaboratively crossfunctionally.
  • Monitor the company performance vs budget at an absolute level on a weekly and monthly basis to unpack revenue and cost variances and identify material contributors to performance (+/) as well as performance vs assumptions on key business levers and operational metrics, articulating the main reasons and recommended actions to be taken for executive audiences.
  • Partner with your peers on the Cashrewards senior leadership team and build a commercial finance business partnering capability with all crossfunctional teams to promote financial literacy, enhance data led decision making and ensure alignment between financial goals and operational execution.
  • Assess and mitigate financial risks by identifying potential vulnerabilities and implementing appropriate risk management strategies.
  • Introduce zerobased budgeting at Cashrewards.
  • Lead and mentor a highperforming team, fostering professional growth, collaboration, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and technology adoption to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the finance function.
  • Positively participate as a member of the senior leadership team and build strong relationship.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with all relevant stakeholders, effectively and confidently communicating the Cashrewards strategic direction and financial results to relevant audiences, i.e. 1835i, ANZ, Cashrewards internal stakeholders
- _ S_upport the preparation of all materials for the board and responsible for high quality monthly strategy and financial reporting being presented to board, coupled with insightful analysis to articulate business performance and variances to plans.


About You:


  • Extensive experience in finance leadership roles in professional services and dynamic corporates
  • CA/CPA Australia qualified
  • Experience leading and nurturing a commercial finance team
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to understand customer, financial and operational data to make datadriven decisions.
  • Ability to articulate problem statements from ambiguous information for teams to deliver the right insights and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Experience leading a transformation in the commercial finance function, across people, processes and systems.
  • Prior experience within the marketing services, media, or related industries is highly advantageous.
  • Proficiency in financial systems, tools and software. Dynamics365 advantageous.
  • Proven experience interacting with senior executives of large organisations and effectively managing stakeholders in a complex matrix environment.
  • Ability to translate complex strategic and financial concepts for general business audiences.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance shortterm operational demands with longterm strategic goals.
