About the Aboriginal Heritage & Native Title Section


Our purpose is to ensure all Aboriginal cultural heritage issues and Native Title rights are managed in a culturally appropriate and sensitive manner.

We empower the business so that the impacts that our activities can have on cultural heritage and Native Title, are fully identified, understood and wherever possible avoided as part of planning and operations.


We provide the business with a positive centre of excellence that delivers a high-level quality of customer service through being a highly agile and functioning Section.

The Aboriginal Heritage and Native Title Section comprises of three teams:


  • Aboriginal Heritage & Native Title Management - Implements and governs the frameworks to ensure Aboriginal Heritage and Native Title requirements and expectations are understood and managed as part of our activities.

Aboriginal Heritage & Native Title Strategy - Provides strategic advice to the business to ensure that Native Title and Aboriginal Heritage expectations and agreement obligations are meet while identifying and influencing mutuality beneficial opportunities for Traditional Owners and Water Corporation.

Aboriginal Heritage Resilience & Integration
  • Designs methodologies and frameworks for a whole of business approach to Aboriginal Heritage management. Integrates these methodologies into current and future business processes.

About the role:


In this role you will Lead the Aboriginal Heritage and Native Title Management team who are responsible for managing and governing the corporate frameworks for the management of Aboriginal Heritage and Native Title matters.


What you'll do:


You will support your team to provide expert guidance to minimise risks to Heritage and Native Title while ensuring the efficient delivery of Water Corporations capital projects and operational activities.


Some of your key tasks will be:

  • Lead, engage and support all team members and foster a spirit of teamwork and unity, both within the immediate team, the wider business unit and Corporation
  • Manage, build, and maintain ongoing relationships with external stakeholders including Traditional Owner groups to facilitate effective Aboriginal Heritage management outcomes and Native Title obligations
  • Develop and deliver complex approvals strategies and obtain statutory approvals under the Aboriginal Heritage and Native Title Acts and other relevant legislation where required
  • Develop and coordinate the strategies for external consultants that undertake Aboriginal Heritage field activities related to consultation, assessment, and monitoring activities
  • Lead and negotiate acceptable and achievable Aboriginal Heritage agreements to facilitate the delivery of Water Corporations activities
  • Assist Manager Aboriginal Heritage and Native Title in representing the Water Corporation on governmental boards to recommend changes in Aboriginal policy and acts

Your skills and experience:

There are a few things that we'll look for in your CV:

  • Substantial experience in managing Aboriginal Heritage and Native Title management, with knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal protocols
  • Substantial experience with Aboriginal Heritage and Native Title processes under State and Federal legislation and their management
  • Experience with providing advice to infrastructure projects
  • Relevant experience in leading a multidisciplinary team
  • Considerable experience in community engagement dealing with Aboriginal Heritage and Native Title, including relevant local agreements
