THE POSITION:

Fairfield City Council is home to one of the largest industrial areas in NSW.

It also includes rural farmlands, large commercial and residential areas and hosts one of the most multicultural gastronomic experiences in Western Sydney.

Council's Public Health and Environment Branch is seeking experienced and recent graduates to join the team.


You will have the opportunity to work within all facets of Environmental Health and be supported by experienced team members to ensure that you succeed in this diverse workplace.


The successful applicant will also be required to conduct investigations of public health complaints, environmental incidents, contaminated land investigations, audit industrial and commercial premises, assess Development Applications in terms of potential environmental impacts and assist in promoting the enhancement, improvement and maintenance of the environment for the wellbeing of the City of Fairfield.


ESSENTIAL:


  • A degree in Environmental Health/ Science or similar qualification.
  • Experience in inspecting regulated premises such as food shops, beauty salons, cooling towers, swimming pools, septic tanks.
  • Sound working knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Food Act, Local Government Act, Public Health Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, and other relevant legislation.
  • Experience investigating complaints concerning pollution incidents, contaminated land, public health risks and similar issues.
  • Experience in the assessment of Development Applications in terms of environmental heads of consideration.
  • Sound judgement with ability to determine appropriate enforcement options (warnings, notices and orders, penalty notices, legal proceedings) and use them to achieve compliance with legislation.
  • Welldeveloped written and communication skills.
  • Current driver's license.

SALARY AND EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

Permanent position, 70 hours per fortnight.

  • This position is a Grade 6, salary range is $89,415.00 p.a. with progression to $98,698.00 on demonstrated competencies, with performance progression to $104,73
