  • Anglo American Steelmaking Coal**Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blastfurnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

Job Description:


  • Reporting to the Safety Manager
  • Systems and Learning, the Safety Specialist
  • Learning will ensure that best practice learning from incident (LFI) methods, processes, systems and are implemented across Steelmaking Coal (SMC)


This is a full-time permanent role based in our Brisbane Corporate Office with flexible working arrangements available and adhoc site travel required.


Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure Learning from Incidents process are integrated into other areas of the business.
  • Monitor and provide guidance on hazard and event classifications ratings, mechanism, agency.
  • Provide reports to leadership to ensure visibility over learning processes (VFL, LFI / CTA action close out, Alert release).
  • Define SMC Learning measures and implement processes to monitor, with automation where possible.
  • Champion improvements to learning modules in Isometrix.
  • Develop and maintain safety intervention TARP for SMC using lag and lead indicators to encourage early intervention.
  • Provide input on learning measures into weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting processes.
  • Collate relevant learnings from internal/external platforms and share to operations and SMEs.
  • Facilitate LFI related coaching for safety professionals.
  • Implement LFI training programs across SMC.
  • Monitor VFL quality and collate learnings from VFL observations.
  • Monitor and report on causation factor repeats and determine intervention at Business Unit level.
  • Monitor effectiveness of recommendations proposed, actions taken and learning transmission.

Qualifications:


  • To be successful in this role, the following will be highly regarded:
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline combined with extensive practical experience.
  • Formal qualification in Safety Investigation Facilitation will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in a similar/same role in the resources sector.
  • Strong track record with engaging with stakeholders across multiple sites and workstreams.
  • Ability to establish and lead a team to safely deliver work and foster a safetyfirst attitude and culture.
