Global Markets is a department of IB&M and is responsible for all activities in interest rate, bond, foreign exchange, credit, debt and commodity products. Global Markets has offices across Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, London and New York.


The
Private Debt Markets team based in Australia is part of the broader Syndicate team focused on distributing private debt transactions to institutional investors, primarily in Australia.

Aggregating investor and market insights, the Private Debt Markets team works with the origination and structuring businesses to identify, structure and distribute private placement transactions predominantly in the Australian markets.


Do work that matters


Reporting into the Head of Private Debt Markets within the Capital Markets & Syndicate team, this Associate Director role will require collaboration with both internal and external stakeholder partners to deliver high quality, private debt solutions for CBA clients.


As a member of the Private Debt Markets team you will be accountable for institutional investor relationship management, delivering market insights as well specialist execution advice to support the syndication of private debt transactions.


Leveraging your understanding of both borrower and investor drivers, you will be responsible for leading the negotiation and syndication of high profile and bespoke financings.


  • Supporting the Private Debt markets team in driving the growth of this business, being the provision of private debt financing solutions across the capital structure of CBA borrowers on a sector agnostic basis.
  • Working closely with Client Solutions and Capital Structuring, leveraging the structuring capabilities and client relationships of IB&M with corporate and sponsor clients to provide bespoke debt solutions that best meets the client's financing needs, including
  • Establishing, maintaining and engaging in regular dialogue with institutional investors in APAC that engage in private debt
  • Providing insights to internal and external stakeholders on a regular basis
  • Developing effective marketing materials to provide issuer clients covering market conditions, execution considerations, syndication strategies to achieve funding targets, investor portfolio needs, CBA capabilities, etc.
  • Provision of indicative pricing for potential issuers based on credit assessment, market conditions, and relative value analysis.
  • Crafting of offering materials/sounding papers for potential investors to evaluate investment opportunity. Need to have strong understanding of credit principals and how investors will evaluate potential risks
  • Develop covenant structures appropriate for Private Debt issuance.
  • Supporting the broader global IB&M private primary markets activities via the syndication process for CBAled transactions, by engaging with investors in the region and driving the sales effort for new primary transactions.

We're interested in hearing from people who

  • Experience in originating, structuring and executing complex debt funding solutions for clients in diverse industries
  • Understanding of the institutional debt markets and insight into the requirements of the investor segment
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with a wide internal stakeholder network interfacing across the business
  • Ability to develop strong client relationships and maintenance of them over time
  • Develop and execute bespoke financing designed, negotiated to meet the needs of issuer and investors. Also have the ability to manage unique problems specific to individual client needs solved in an efficient and effective manner
  • Experience in the management of debt transactions gained preferably in the Australian debt markets such as syndicated loans, DCM or sales/trading.
