About This Opportunity

UQ's online presence is undergoing an exciting period of transformational change.

Under the guidance of the Web Development Team Lead, the Web Development Officer will work closely with other team members to undertake design and development for a range of University websites.

Other tasks may include website updates and maintenance and providing support to users of the University's Content Management Systems (CMS).


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Adopt and promote sound cyber security practices in compliance with UQ's Cyber Security Policy.
  • Assist with the web development and maintenance of UQ's CMS, including maintaining records and producing reports as required.
  • Diagnosing and responding to problems and faults, escalating to more senior staff as appropriate.
  • Completing timesheets and providing job details for accurate and timely charging of clients.
  • Liaising with other staff within ITS and external service providers regarding difficult problems, development or systems administration and providing support to those staff when required.
  • Participate in significant Information Technology activities and projects under the guidance of more experienced staff (both internal to ITS and for ITS' clients).
This is a full-time, continuing (permanent) position.


At HEW level 5, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $77,396 - $86,029, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%.

The total FTE package will be up to $90,553 - $100,654 annually.

As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

About You

  • Essential_
  • Qualifications and training equivalent to an undergraduate degree in web development or related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training.
  • Skills/experience in web development, with knowledge of best practice principles of website design and development.
  • Knowledge of web standards and accessibility standards.
  • Breadth of general computing and network knowledge.
  • Demonstrated effective problemsolving skills with the ability to perform research or liaise with others to develop solutions for more difficult problems.
  • Selfmotivated and able to work constructively either alone or in a team environment to meet defined objectives, paying attention to detail and with the ability to organise own time and approach tasks methodically.


  • Desirable_

  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and GitHub/GitLab.
  • Knowledge of Web Content Management Systems such as Drupal.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, frontend website design, including creating low and hi fidelity prototypes of webpages or elements of a webpage, designing usable page layouts, and digital image design, sourcing, editing, and optimising for online delivery.
