We are seeking collaborative and highly motivated Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to make a direct impact in the way government develops and implements policies for Australia, as well as those relating to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.


At Treasury we offer opportunities to exceptional graduates from a range of disciplines, including law, business and commerce, finance, economics, public policy, statistics and mathematics, political science and data and more.


As well as relevant academic qualifications, we're looking for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander graduates with highly developed written and oral communication skills, strong analytical and people skills, and those who can demonstrate influence, initiative, fairness and respect.


As a graduate joining the Australian Government's leading economic policy adviser, you will work on policies that impact the organisation and the Australian economic landscape.

Our two year program offers targeted training and development while you will complete two 12 month work rotations to develop your skills, knowledge and confidence as an influential Treasury employee.

Treasury Graduates have the opportunity to learn from others who have expertise in areas such as:

  • fiscal, tax or social policy
- law, legislation or regulatory policy
- market conduct and consumer data policy,
- macroeconomic modelling
- foreign investment
- financial services
- small business
- domestic and international economic conditions


About our program


We offer a supportive structure for our graduate program therefore we currently do not support placements outside of our Canberra office (Ngunnawal Country).

We understand moving away from your community can be challenging.

Our onboarding processes make for a comfortable transition and include relocation assistance (upon agreement), and connection with Treasury's Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander networks to best support you.

You can actively engage with your culture in an environment that recognises the value of diverse perspectives and experiences in the delivery of the work we do.

Graduates are critical to Treasury's workforce and are actively integrated from day one in real work activities.

Based in our Canberra office (Ngunnawal Country), graduates will work in a supportive and inclusive work environment with opportunities to be involved in our many employee networks.


As a graduate you will receive:

- a competitive starting salary of $70,457 per annum + 15.4% superannuation (total remuneration package $81,307 per annum) based Treasury's APS 3.2 classification level
- opportunity for performance-based salary increases during your Graduate Development Program

  • 20 days annual leave in addition to office closure period between Christmas and New Year
- flexible working arrangements, including flex-time and options to work from home in agreement with your manager and team requirements

Australian Government Graduate Program - Economist Stream

Eligibility

  • Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
  • You must be an Australian citizen by the end of the calendar year in which you apply, e.g. become an Australian citizen by December 202
  • You will, or have completed at least an Australian Qualifications Framework Level 7 qualification (a Bachelor degree), or higher equivalent by 31 December 202
  • Your most recent eligible qualification must be no more than five years old (ie has or will be completed between 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2023).The minimum requirement is a Bachelor degree.
  • You will need to have performed well over the course of your studies to ensure that you are competitive in the selection process.
  • You must be willing and able to move to Canberra for the duration of the program.
  • You must be willing to obtain and maintain a valid Australia
