About the role


Our Marketing & Engagement team is looking to appoint a Corporate Affairs Manager to lead Botanic Gardens of Sydney's corporate communications including ministerial communication, key stakeholder and customer engagement and providing support for Executive and corporate correspondence.


The Corporate Affairs Manager has management responsibilities for a Customer & Corporate Affairs Officer, works closely with the News & Content Manager and reports to the Head of Marketing & Engagement.

Key accountabilities

  • Manage Ministerial media and correspondence including house notes, responses to questions on notice, briefing notes, media relations as well as general correspondence
  • Lead on the development and activation of key media stories for the Trust, in partnership with the News & Content Manager
  • Develop and maintain a responsive and efficient working relationship, facilitate timely and effective communication and be a point of contact between the Trust, the Department and the Minister's Office
  • Manage regular communications on media, communications, risks and issues to the Minister's office to ensure that the Ministerial office is aware of issues of relevance arising from the operations of the Trust, and stakeholder commentary
  • Manage and oversee the customer correspondence, reception and complaints function for the Trust, including management and development of the Corporate Affairs Officer and casual staff
  • Undertake high level research to inform the development of briefings and correspondence
  • Develop legislated communication materials and communicating publicly annual reports, public notifications, consultative materials and other legislated NSW Government communication responsibilities
Key challenges

  • Managing the development of key news media stories across the Trust's functions, translating technical and scientific information for a broader audience.
  • Ensuring the organisation adheres to Ministerial and NSW Government communications standards, against tight deadlines.
  • Maintaining an effective relationship with internal networks, ensuring that communications to key stakeholders is consistent

About You
To truly succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in communication and correspondence protocols in a public sector environment, with specific reference to Ministerial liaison, media liaison and/or Corporate Affairs.
  • Knowledge and an understanding of relevant statutory, regulatory and policy frameworks governing the public sector.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in news media liaison, journalism and/or corporate and government communications.

Essential Requirements

  • A degreelevel tertiary qualification in a relevant field, or equivalent experience
  • Current Australian drivers licence and willingness to travel to sites across Greater Sydney and the Blue Mountains when required.
