About the Organisation
The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) was established in 1973 to address the specific medical needs of
Victorian Aboriginal communities. 2023 marks as a landmark year as VAHS proudly celebrate it's 50-year of
providing a comprehensive range of medical, dental, allied health, and social services for our community.

As well as providing a variety of medical services, VAHS is committed to supporting the well-being of the
community through contributions to community events and activities. VAHS is also committed to assisting
research into the ongoing needs of the community.

VAHS is a child safe organisation, committed to child safety and wellbeing, and recruits' staff in accordance with
the Child Safe Standards Victoria.

**About the Opportunity
The AAC has the primary responsibility of connecting with local Elders, older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
people and their families to raise awareness of their aged care entitlements.

The role will also help determine the level of local demand for aged care services, identify existing aged care
services, any service gaps in the area and continue advocacy work with clients as required.

**Key Selection Criteria
To be considered for this role you must have the following.

  • Understanding of and Commitment to the Aboriginal community
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships in
community.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of personcentered care and traumainformed practice.
  • Experience working with older people.
  • Understanding of the internal ACCHO services available to clients.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the aged care landscape.
  • Ability to or willingness to learn how to enter data and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Welldeveloped computer skills
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and adapt to change
  • Fully approved Covid 19 Vaccinations (including booster)
