The Role
We are seeking to engage a
Technical Principal Engineer - Tunnels to join our Team in Melbourne.

In this role, you'll provide expert technical and project management skills to support the ongoing activities of a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy, contributing to managing a variety of divergent activities (within a discipline), providing technical expertise, contributing to the strategic direction and providing supervision and leadership to employees within the discipline.


This role is responsible for the review of key projects being delivered, development of concept designs in conjunction with the team as required and contributing to targeting and securing new work.

A Principal Engineer will provide significant supervision, leadership, mentoring and coaching of other staff.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing expert advice and demonstrate advanced technical skills, ensuring that analysis and design tasks undertaken meet appropriate technical standards and the requirements of the client and SMEC
  • Demonstrate high level project management skills while accomplishing project deliverables to the required standard and in a timely manner
  • Significant active contribution to the commercial success of projects and the team and contributing to successful business development

About You

Suitable applicants will have/be able to:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Engineering) or Equivalent
  • CPEng, RPEQ, Member of Engineers Australia
  • 15+ years' relevant professional experience
  • Provide expert advice and undertake key complex technical tasks with a high degree of independence across a broad range of projects
  • Deliver best client outcomes which have resulted in cost savings
  • Build technical capability of others
  • Prepare complex technical reports and prepare successful proposals on small, medium and large projects
  • Utilise excellent time management skills with the ability to efficiently plan workloads and meet deadlines
  • Effectively manage client relationships and expectations
  • Provide supervision and coaching to other staff
  • Effectively engage key stakeholders to result in superior project outcomes which meet or exceed client expectations
