About us


As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.


Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland.

The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

Purpose of the role


The Digital Learning Deployment unit coordinates the management, development, maintenance and deployment of electronic learning (e-learning) training packages and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) that utilises Extended Reality (ER) hardware, digital software systems, and innovative content to support the maintenance of skills acquisition and professional development through accredited and non-accredited courses across QFES and regional training environments.

The team communicates across QFES services and engages with capability owners to ensure the content and delivery of products is relevant, current, fit-for-purpose, and assessment tools are mapped to support the requirements of the Registered Training Authority (RTO) and industry standards for qualifications that are nationally recognised for operational staff and volunteers.

Key requirements

Highly desirable requirements

  • Knowledge and experience in communications, instructional design and/or technical writing to design, develop, test and review engaging eLearning training programs, packages and resources.
  • Practical experience of design, delivery and review of eLearning programs and information sessions utilising tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Articulate Storyline, Wordpress, etc.
  • Possession of a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and/or accredited tertiary qualification in adult education or can obtain the skill within a mutually agreed timeframe.
  • Knowledge or experience working in a quality assurance role within an RTO environment.
Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

  • Contribute to the design, development and production of engaging digital content, including immersive media, interface and web design for digital learning packages and resources, in line with agreed learning models and frameworks.
  • Manage existing and new publication of sessions through various systems and ensure digital content is ready for the delivery of online and/or blended learning courses.
  • Plan, write, produce and conduct editorial quality assurance for use in multimedia content for a wide range of audiences and ensure training materials are reviewed and maintain to reflect current RTO compliance.
  • Liaise and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders to promote immersive learning and maintain a comprehensive understanding of training needs and learning outcomes in the development learning programs and experiences.
  • Contribute to the development of a continuous improvement processes for digital products and evaluation tools to assess the efficiency of digital content and ensure adherence with best practice standards.
  • Prepare documentation such as learning guides, briefs, reports, and communication materials relating to digital and blended learning programs, in accordance with departmental requirements.
  • Research, and analyse data, and environmental scanning to identify new developments and ideas and ensure a best practice digital learning and development approach within QFES.
