Nurse Practitioner - Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health

Your new team:


  • Orygen Specialist Program (OSP), a program of Melbourne Health, provides mental health services to young people aged 1525 and their families/carers in Melbourne's northwest and western suburbs.
  • The Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings including the Parkville and Malmsbury sites.

Your new role:


  • A key leadership role within Custodial FYMHS and broader OSP and will suit a NP with experience in Mental Health and/or AOD service delivery, especially amongst the younger population, or a NP looking to build on their existing clinical experience.

In this role you will:

  • Develop and implement the model of care to reduce the current service gaps
  • Develop the integration of research, education, clinical practice, leadership and supervision across the service and wider OSP
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to provide training, and primary and secondary consultation of young people with complex physical health needs
  • Provision of training and secondary consultation to develop capabilities of YJP, primary health and FYMHS staff working with young people and their families/carers from Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander, CALD and LGBTQIA backgrounds

About you:


  • Qualified and endorsed with The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) as a nurse practitioner
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skills in the principles and practice of working with mental health patients with addiction/AOD issues
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs that upskill health workers
  • Experience in reviewing and developing policies, evaluating risk and quality improvement, clinical research, and knowledge translation
