As a member of the Community Development team, and reporting to the Team Leader, this crucial role involves assisting in the efficient planning, development, implementation, delivery, monitoring, and promotion of community capacity building activities, events, and programs.


By collaborating closely with stakeholders and serving as a representative of SOEP, this role ensures the seamless delivery of each event and project.


Social and Community Development

  • Collaborate with the Team leader Community Capacity Building to assess community needs and continuously evaluate, monitor, and revise Community Capacity Building programs and services. This ensures the delivery of highquality services that align with the Shire's Strategic Community Plan, under the guidance of the Coordinator and Manager.
  • Follow instructions from the Team leader to facilitate, implement, and deliver events, programs, projects, and services for the local community. Adhere to specified budgets and timeframes.
  • Assist in implementing strategies outlined in the Shire's strategic documents to promote community development and wellbeing.
  • Establish and nurture strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of community services and events.
  • Ensure that all programs, activities, and projects within the scope of the position comply with relevant safety standards, legislation, regulations, policies, and guidelines.

Provision of Administration Services

  • Carry out administrative, financial, and reporting procedures in accordance with the Shire's guidelines and processes. This includes managing the Community Assistance Grant program, Sustainability Litter Prevention Program, invoice and purchase order processing, and preparing monthly Information Bulletins for Council meetings.
  • Provide administrative and practical support for Community Capacity Building and internal Shire events and programs as needed.
  • Attend various community network meetings, take minutes, and provide administration support to the networks as required.
  • Offer general administrative support to Community Capacity Building staff as necessary.
  • Continuously monitor and assist with the review and quality improvement of policies and procedures as required.

Partnerships

  • Explore and support opportunities for partnerships with local community organizations, neighbourhood groups, residents, and community groups as needed.
  • Facilitate and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers, including key stakeholders.
  • Encourage the recruitment of volunteers to assist with program implementation.

Communication

  • Assist in maintaining communication between local networks, relevant agencies, community organizations, and law enforcement sectors.
  • Actively promote the positive image of the Shire of East Pilbara within the wider community.
  • Prepare and provide information and advice to community members regarding Community Capacity Building activities and events.
  • Assist in the administration of Community Capacity Building information on the Shire's website and social media platforms.
  • Create marketing materials for various events and programs within the Community Capacity Building section for distribution.
  • Keep Shire employees updated on local community initiatives and the Shire's community programs.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA (to be considered for this role you must demonstrate the following skills and experience)

  • Minimum Certificate IV qualifications in Community Development, social science or similar studies, or work experience resulting in the same level of skill and knowledge.
  • Current West Australian 'C' Class Drivers Licence.
  • Current National Police Clearance Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain.
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Good understanding of Project Management principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in community projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in contributing to budget preparation, monitoring expenditure, and other administrative procedures.
  • Sound knowledge of Safety & Health requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in community project/event administration and communication.
  • Sound customer management skills.
  • Good time management and organisational skills.
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, facilitation skills.
  • Highly developed keyboard and computer skills, including social media / website skills / digital communications skills.
  • Possess initiative and the ability to work unsupervised within a small team environment.
