Who are we?

Hands On Science are a Melbourne-based science education company who run fun, interactive science incursions with primary school students Victoria wide.

Hands On Science was established in 1993, so we've been teaching Victorian kids for almost 30 years We cater to all year levels - Foundation (Prep) to Year - and currently offer 20 programs to schools across 5 science disciplines: Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Earth & Space and Design & Technology.


Where do we work?
A majority of our teaching occurs within metropolitan Melbourne, but we occasionally work in regional areas. Our main HQ is in Alphington.

Approximately once a week, teachers are required to come to the warehouse to pick-up any equipment needed for the week to come.

Our goal is to make kids fall in love with science and learning.

We believe the best way to facilitate this is by providing high quality, fun, engaging activities and teaching them with energy and warmth.

Key responsibilities

  • Delivery of science education workshops & shows to schools, preschools, libraries and vacation care centres.
  • Maintenance of science workshop kits, equipment and consumables.
  • Work with the education team to plan and design science outreach & science club programs as needed.
  • Use of our software and cloudbased apps for communication, training and planning.

Other responsibilities

  • Occasional travel outside of metropolitan areas for science workshop activities.
  • Some recordkeeping in relation to the delivery of science workshop activities.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Superior organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong ability to relate to children of ages 4 to 13 in both classroom & nonclassroom settings.
  • Broad knowledge of scientific theories and laws, with a strong ability to communicate this knowledge with a wide range of age groups and backgrounds.
  • Ability to perform in varied public spaces.
  • Your English communication skills will need to be of the highest standard.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and adhere to stated availabilities.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the metropolitan & surrounding areas
  • Commitment to WHS and EEO principles within the workplace.
  • A reasonable level of physical fitness is required.
  • A Current Drivers Licence.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • A minimum of 2 years completed of a B.Sc or B.App.
Sc, with the commencement of a Dip. Ed. or similar would be advantageous.
