Independent Board Directors - Economic Development Queensland

  • Three to six independent Directors sought
  • Experienced NED's sought including a Chair
Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) is the Government's land use planning and property development agency.

The Economic Development and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 (the Bill) was introduced to Parliament on 20 March 2024 to amend the Act under which EDQ functions.

It is intended that the legislative process will be complete with the amended Act coming into force on 1 July 2024.

The amendments to the Act seek to strengthen EDQ's remit in relation to housing delivery with a particular focus on social, affordable and diverse housing at scale across the State in response to the current housing challenges impacting Queensland.

Additionally, the purpose, powers, operating model and corporate structure are being refined to ensure EDQ is best positioned to deliver significant improvements across housing, enterprise and place-based outcomes to support long-term performance and financial sustainability.

EDQ has planned and facilitated the delivery of some of the largest residential developments in Queensland and some of the State's most iconic urban renewal projects.

Moreover, EDQ has set benchmarks for the property industry through innovations like zero net energy communities and created jobs of the future in regional Queensland by opening up tens of thousands of hectares of industrial land supply for clean energy and large-scale manufacturing.

EDQ's increasingly complex and diverse portfolio includes precinct and land development across all sectors, asset management, infrastructure planning and delivery, and property transaction structuring across various uses.

In accordance with the amended Act, the Board will consist of the Department's Chief Executive, the Under Treasurer and at least three but not more than six other members appointed by the Governor in Council.

The Board is intended to provide a diversity of skills, experience and background to cover the breadth of the EDQ portfolio to enable complete and adequate consideration of development projects and property-related matters.

We are seeking experienced Non-Executive Directors (NED's) who have extensive experience in one or more of the following:

  • local government;
- land use planning;
- social policy or community development;
- law, economics, or accounting;
- the construction or development industries;
- natural resource and environmental management;
