- Adelaide, Hobart, Melbourne
To address this, the Bureau of Meteorology is undertaking significant steps to deliver a more customer focused, integrated and resilient national operation within the Community Services Group (CSG).
CSG is comprised of Environmental Prediction Services (EPS), Decision Support Services and National Production Services, which have been designed to enable scalable, national, and resilient services.
The advertised role sits within EPS, a Program that will establish a world class centre of scientific expertise through four predictive service teams of Marine and Antarctic, Water, Climate and Severe Weather.
The objective of the Marine and Antarctic team is to deliver unsurpassed environmental prediction services for marine, coastal and oceans hazards offshore, in coastal waters and on the Australian and the Antarctic continents including surrounding ice areas and international waters.
To deliver these objectives the team is divided into two sub teams, Ocean and Antarctic Services and Tsunami, Marine and Coastal Hazards.
Both these teams operate within a footprint across Hobart, Adelaide and Melbourne and together support and deliver a number of different services.
The Tsunami, Marine and Coastal Hazards team (TMCH) is specialised in tsunami, storm surge, tidal extremes and other hazards related to sea level, weather and waves impacting coastlines, coastal waters and the high seas.
It focuses on delivering to our emergency services and community customers high impact warning services for all hazards affecting low-lying coastal areas and the marine environment.
It will monitor for tsunami, marine and coastal hazards and stand up operationally as required to provide specialist input to national operations.
The team also leads the development and maintenance of tsunami, marine weather and coastal hazard capabilities (wave and storm surge related hazards).
