The Company

This Australian success story is currently looking to recruit a General Manager for their newly acquired Australian materials handling equipment, sales, hire and service arm.

The role will lead and grow the business though better service and blue chip account management.

The business consists of, sales, service, rental and parts with a large team across the country based at various state based locations.

This is a business-critical position, reporting to the ELT, which will take responsibility for all aspects of the companies operational and sales performance.


Job Requirements

  • You will run the business and manage the P & L this will include overseeing account management, rental, service and the parts businesses to achieve growth and customer experience to continue the exponential growth the business has achieved over the last few years.
  • To lead and drive a strong safety culture across the group nationally. This will be done through a safety program focused on behaviours and accountability
  • Provide strong leadership, coaching and mentoring to a large multi location leadership team with indirect support for the teams in the field and across sales and management ideally fostering a collaborative approach.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service & communication
  • Lead the team to ensure all work schedules and activities with customers are in place
  • Work with the broader business to develop the strategy and growth for the business unit as well as the annual business plans and performance to budget.
  • Develop the management plans and drive best practice in line with company procedures.
  • Set and manage KPI's across each division with regular reporting and performance management meetings.

Background and Experience:


  • Tertiary qualified, in a relevant degree
  • Open to any industry if it aligned to this role, such as engineering services, equipment hire and/or service, mechanical trade, materials handling equipment, etc.
  • Ensure that safety across the business is the number 1 priority
  • High energy and a cando attitude with a result focus. The successful person will be collaborative in their approach with an ability to motivate teams for success.
  • Able to work in a high paced, chaotic environment but also able to assess processes and improve them.
  • Experience running a business unit with P&L responsibility, either in a general management or branch management type capacity, that leads both service operations and customer account management.
  • Very strong leadership capability. Able to work with and motivate a diverse group of staff that are based in all locations around Australia
  • Detail orientated and able to drill down on core issues when required but also step away and look more broadly when required
  • Have an operational mindset and background
  • Must have a calming style, not easily flustered, strong on structure and discipline but also collaborative
  • Customer orientated, able to meet and work closely with customers
  • A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to think strategically alongside senior management but also manage day to day operations
  • Experience improving performance through people and process, including the developing of systems in line with business requirements
  • Must be a team player who is motivated, driven and can drive change in an inclusive and collaborative manner
