Purpose of the role


This position is primarily responsible for driving the proactive implementation and continual improvement of Health, Safety and Environmental culture, strategy, plan and performance.

Implement HSE initiatives by providing technical assistance in the identification, evaluation and control of workplace hazards.

This must be done in line with ensuring the focus areas and activities of the business are holistically carried out in line with the companies values and a single strategy must be enabled through ensuring a unified culture of safety, people, customer focus and operational excellence is in place.

Accountabilities

Translate and implement the HSE strategy and plan;
Provide Health and Safety support to minimise fatalities, injuries, disease and ill health; and

Lead organisational change to drive a positive safety culture and achieve HSE objectives and targets.

Primary responsibilities


Identify health and safety legislative requirements and changes as it applies to their business and with the agreement and approval of management integrate into the Health and Safety Management System.

Provide advice, support and information for the availability and implementation of the Health and Safety Policy, HSE Management System, safety leadership and behavioural program by line management;
Provide technical input to HSE planning, HSE risk management and management review processes e.g., dangerous goods, emergency preparedness;

Assist management with developing, monitoring, and reviewing in consultation with employees the Business Health, Safety and Environment Management System and HSE Plan with its objectives and targets.

Communicate results within the business;
Support operational management to ensure that HSE responsibilities of employees (including contractors) are effectively communicated;
Provide professional advice to management with identifying and providing training to ensure that required health and safety competencies are met and reviewed;
Facilitate health and safety consultation, co-operation, and co-ordination processes with employees in accordance with the relevant legislative and requirements;
Provide professional advice to management to assist with health and safety communication and reporting to employees and external parties such as customers, contractors, and public authorities;
Provide health surveillance for employees when a specific health risk has been identified;
Provide advice and assistance to ensure the thorough investigation of incidents and the appropriateness of corrective actions to prevent a recurrence and eliminate or otherwise minimise risk;
Follow the companies HSEQ management system and utilise the procedures and programs provided to manage health and safety records;
Undertake health and safety audits and / or arrange for 3rd party health and safety audits and complete any corrective actions required; and

Follow up on audit actions to ensure there on-going effectiveness.

Pre-requisites

In order to succeed in this role, it is expected that you will have possess the following knowledge / experience:2-5 years in a HSE role;
Experience in relationship management of both internal clients and external stakeholders;
Excellent working knowledge of HSE;
Experience in working in large complex global organisations;
Experience in HSE systems implementation preferred;
Experience in working in supply chain is preferred; and

Experience with regards to identifying and managing manual handling risks preferred.
