Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

The position will be primarily located at Nepean Hospital
_ _within the Department of Geriatric Medicine.

Successful applicants will be The Post Graduate Fellow is clinically responsible for:

  • The initial assessment of the patient which should consist of ensuring a complete and documented comprehensive patient history, physical examination and the formulating of a management plan and ordering appropriate investigations.
  • Communicating with the patient about his / her condition and management or with the immediate family if the patient is unconscious or otherwise unable to comprehend.
  • Communication of assessment with the senior medical staff and other members of the team providing care to the patient.
  • Ensuring accurate record of history and examination, management plan, investigations and action taken in the patient's medical record including regular progress notes.
  • Instituting immediate treatment as appropriate. This may include cardiopulmonary resuscitation of the patient, also actively participate in Advanced Care Planning.
  • Reviewing of all pathology, radiology and other diagnostic reports and advising the Consultant and/or taking appropriate action.
  • Ensuring effective discharge summary is provided to those involved in after care including the General Practitioner and the Attending Medical Officer.
  • Monitor patient flow/ETP and SNAP and provide reports or audits as required.

  • Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA);
  • Possess Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
    or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997
    and the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and selfmonitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position. Possess a Current NSW Driver's Licence.
  • Sound clinical knowledge in Geriatric Medicine demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.
  • Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
  • Sound clinical knowledge in the subspecialty of Geriatric Medicine demonstrated by relevant qualifications and/or appropriate postFellowship clinical experience.**
  • Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department
