About the role

The Medical Education Officer (MEO) is a team member in the Postgraduate Medical Education Unit (PMEU).

This role includes responsibilities across 5 sites hosting junior medical staff (Interns, HMO and Registrar) rotations: Angliss Hospital, Box Hill Hospital, Maroondah Hospital, Peter James Centre and Wantirna Health.

The MEO may be required to be based at the different sites of Box Hill Hospital, Angliss Hospital and Maroondah Hospital, with ad-hoc visits to other sites as required.


As a member of the PMEU team the MEO will be responsible for developing, facilitating and participating in processes for the delivery of junior medical staff (JMS) orientation, education and training, mandatory training compliance, supervision and assessment, support and advocacy.

Apart from Eastern Health (EH) orientation, which includes registrars, this role is primarily related to prevocational Interns and HMOs. The MEO may also participate in accreditation, administration, quality improvement and research work undertaken by PMEU.


As a team member of PMEU, the MEO will share to ensure EH processes meet the requirements for national and state accreditation standards, the Australian Curriculum Framework for Junior Doctors (ACFJD), the Australian Medical Council (AMC) National Intern Training Framework (NITF) global outcome statements and the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) standards for prevocational junior doctor programs.


This position reports to the Director of PMEU, and hence to the Executive Director - Research / Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

About you


To be successful in this role you will possess:
Essential


Have a recognised formal qualification in education and/or health-related discipline; including registration with the relevant Board via AHPRA for clinical practice if appropriate.

Experience in the development, delivery, implementation and facilitation of broad clinical training programs to a post-graduate client base


Experience in health and/or health profession education accreditation standards, audits, surveys, implementing recommendations and a high level quality improvement system with proven outcomes.


Understanding and commitment to professional standards, codes and behaviours as legislated through the Health Act, Medical Board of Australia, other relevant professional bodies and Eastern Health Policy, Standards and Practice Guidelines.

Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with excellent organisational, critical thinking, problem solving and prioritisation skills.

Demonstrated highly developed, effective interpersonal, communication, negotiation and networking skills across health service staff at all levels.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a small team and collaborate with other teams (e.g. EH Medical Workforce Unit, Clinical Units, Learning and Teaching Directorate).

Commitment to providing a safe environment for all, which supports wellbeing.

Experience in providing empathetic pastoral care and sensitivity in supporting better health and wellbeing of staff.

Proficient computer literacy, extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) and website or learning management software (iLearn).

Experience with Survey Monkey or a similar survey and reporting tool.

Desirable

Post Graduate qualification in clinical education, health professions education or relevant field

Knowledge and understanding of the Australian Medical Council's Prevocational Medical Education and Training Program

Previous experience working in an Australian public hospital system, working with and supporting junior doctors or other clinicians.

Have previous experience and commitment to health service clinician education, training and continuous improvement.

Understanding of national & state accreditation standards for prevocational doctor training.

An understanding of the Doctors in Training EBA

Experience in project management skills and creating change to work practices in a health care organization.

Experience in promoting and contributing to conflict resolution, supportive, safe staff environment.

Willing to participate in PMEU Research projects.

Public presentation skills.
