Position Information:


John Palmer Public School is a large, dynamic and student-centred school located in The Ponds, a rapidly growing area in North West Sydney (enrolment 1000, 65% LBOTE, including an Early Intervention Class and MC Inclusive Class).

The school has strong community links and the educational opportunities for students are focused on developing each individual through the values, Integrity, Excellence and Innovation, embedded as part of the school culture.


Currently, the facilities at John Palmer PS are being upgraded, with works due to be completed by early Term 4.

When finished, these new facilities will incorporate classrooms set up for collaborative teaching and a hub of 3 support classes.


Selection Criteria:


In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary and demonstrated ability to build the capacity of individuals and teams as a supervisor and educational leader, balancing the dual roles of an exemplary classroom teacher and Assistant Principal.

Highly visible and collaborative leader, who promotes a culture of belonging and high expectations to strengthen positive partnerships within the school community

Proven ability to lead collaborative co-teaching practices based on current research and innovative principles.

Demonstrated expertise leading sport and the ability to coordinate large whole school events successfully.


General Selection Criteria:


  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
