About the role:


The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) consultant supports managers and employees in understanding and complying with Occupational Health and Safety legislative requirements and Victoria Police OHS governance.

OHS Consultants are critical drivers of the HSW strategy and will be instrumental in providing the required knowledge and coaching to middle managers and frontline employees.

The primary focus for the OHS Consultants is to provide their professional knowledge and expertise to the frontline members, HSRs, OHS Committees, projects, specialist committees and department heads; to ensure we continue to building on safety behaviours and risk competence.

Reporting to the OHS Team Leader, you will be critical in driving Health and Safety across Victoria Police.

Your ability to manage relationships, communicate strongly and impart OHS knowledge will give you the skills required to mentor front line workers and work unit managers to help them manage health and safety in their workplace.

Victoria Police is looking to continually improve its health and safety through the release of the Health and Safety Strategy.

The strategy focuses on current and emerging health and safety practices.

You will be expected to provide input into the continuous improvement of Health and Safety both locally and strategically within Victoria Police.

This will be achieved by using your innovative and creative thinking skills and exploring new and emerging ways of how we can implement innovative safety practices.

Your duties will include:


  • Relevant OHS or Work Health and Safety tertiary qualification.
  • Thorough understanding of Victorian OHS legislation
  • Providing specialist OHS advice, assistance and support to Victoria Police employees
  • Understanding of contemporary and progressive safety practices and approaches to health and safety.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Advanced interpersonal verbal and written communication skills with a vibrant and engaging disposition
  • An enthusiastic approach to OHS with willingness to further develop as a safety professional
  • Demonstrated strength in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Experience in a complex Government Organisation or Emergency Services is an advantage

Requirements and relevant information:


  • One (1) x fulltime, ongoing position available.
  • This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
