    The School of Chemistry at UNSW is recognised nationally and internationally, for producing world-class fundamental and applied research in the field of Chemical Sciences to address real-world challenges. The School's research is focused on five key themes: Health, Energy. Advanced Materials, New Chemical Frontiers and Knowledge Exchange.

    The Research Associate is part of an Australian Research Centre Training Centre on Next-Gen Technologies in Biomedical Analysis, based in the School of Chemistry at the University of New South Wales. The Research Associate will be involved in developing 3D cell models using a 3D bioprinter for understanding drug action.

    About the role

  • $106k - $113k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed Term – 12 months
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)

    • The role of Research Associate reports to Scientia Professor Justin Gooding and has no direct reports.

    Specific responsibilities for this role include:

  • Lead and manage a linkage research project focused on developing in vitro 3D immunooncology model and biotherapeutics drug testing.
  • Contribute independently or as a team member in collaborative research with a focus to drive the success of the Linkage relationship and enhance the quality of research outcomes.
  • Design and execute experiments to create complex 3D immunooncology model using RASTRUM for evaluating the efficacy of novel immunotherapeutic agents.
  • Develop and optimise drug screening assays to validate compatibility, showcase workflow and identify potential immunooncology drug candidates.
  • Analyse experimental data, interpret results, and support the dissemination of research outcomes through appropriate channels and outlets.
  • Prepare and present findings at internal meetings, external project update meetings with the collaborators and scientific conferences and workshops.
  • Assist with the supervision of research students in the research area where required.

    To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A PhD in biology, biomedicine or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in immunology and/or immunooncology research.
  • Demonstrated experience in biotherapeutics drug development and testing.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with external partners.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
