About the role
Are you looking for an opportunity to make a difference for the Australian community?


As an Assistant Commissioner in our Law Design and Practice Group you'll empower others by sharing knowledge, experience and feedback freely, as well as actively developing the technical and practice skills of team members in the business area and beyond.

You'll contribute to the strategic direction and the leadership of the group and the broader ATO.


There are a range of diverse and rewarding senior leadership roles across Law Design and Practice business areas including, Tax Counsel Network, Litigation and Legal Services and Objections and Review.


Your duties

  • Lead the resolution and management of significant technical issues in taxation and superannuation law
  • Provide expert, practical and contemporary tax advice and assurance
  • Collaborate with and engage others to influence the delivery of integrated and innovative solutions

Skills and experience

  • Proven ability resolving complex, important or contentious tax issues
  • Make accurate and timely decisions in relation to technical legal and operational requirements
  • Strong people leadership skills and experience developing capability in a legal services environment
  • Tertiary qualification in taxation, law or related disciplines

These roles may be offered in Adelaide, Brisbane CBD, Box Hill, Canberra, Dandenong, Gosford, Hobart, Melbourne CBD, Moonee Ponds, Newcastle, Parramatta, Perth, Sydney CBD, Townsville or Upper Mount Gravatt.

You must be an Australian citizen to work with the ATO. A security clearance up to Negative Vetting 1 may be required.
