3mth contract assignment with local city council office located in Midland. Attractive rates and a diverse role.


My client is a council located in Midland and looking for an experienced Business Support and Finance Officer to join their team for an initial 3 month contract in this diverse and busy role.


To be successful in this role you will be highly organised and a good communicator with a skill set that enables responses to financial inquiries from the media and stakeholders.

The role requires high level of attention to detail and a high degree of confidentiality.

A background in Executive Support and with finance responsibilities would be of preference in this role and the ability to prioritise and multitask will also be helpful.


An overview of the responsibilities of this role are below however the main focus will to be to support the Manager.


  • Some of the duties required for the role include:_

  • Responsible for the processing of the Business Units purchasing and payment of accounts in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Provides assistance to Financial Services & Rates various sections with budget preparation, annual financial statements and in the delivery of special projects and programs for the business

  • Under the direction of Finance and Business Administrator prepare periodic reports and presentation slides for Manager Financial Services & Rates.
  • This position also provides support to financial and management accounting sections with month end reporting and agenda for Council meetings.
  • Undertakes and assist with the completion of special projects as requested by the Manager.
  • Assists with management of the credit cards.
  • Performs monthly reconciliations and analyses transactions to ensure they are costed to correct accounts and are in line with the City's policy (100 credit cards with an overall budget of $450,000).
  • It assists in the development, implementation and review of guidelines, policies and procedures as well as with the analysis of and reporting on business performance.
  • Provides ad hoc services to and assists the Manager of Financial Services and Rates in the coordination of functions, processes and responsibilities as required, to ensure the delivery of an integrated and customer focused service.
  • Proof reading of timely and accurate financial reports with specific compliance to Australian Accounting Standards and appropriate legislation to achieve the corporate objectives outlined in Corporate Plans.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Annual Financial Report and Budget.
  • Prepare accurate and timely statistical reports or Government agencies.
  • Assists in analysing and reporting on the Business Unit's performance.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation and monitoring of the Business Units Business Plan.
  • Manages and coordinates, the petty cash function across the whole City. Reconciles petty cash weekly.
  • Assist Manager in collating and consolidating new initiatives requests and costs requested by Council during budget workshop.
  • Assist auditors during internal and external audits for the City's financial affairs by consolidating City's responses to audit queries.
  • Facilitates and maintains effective liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides ongoing training/assistance and advice to officers on IT issues e.g setting up computer for a new staff member, software upgrades and unified communication system implantation.
The salary range will be between $64,000 to $76,000 depending on the level of experience. It is a full time role working between 8am to 5pm with a 1 hour lunch break.
