About the Role


Due to continued high demand for our services, we seek highly motivated and resilient Principal Environmental Management Officer to fill a full-time role within our growing team.


This role requires a very good understanding of sustainable development for the community by working with industry stakeholders to achieve timely, customer focused development assessment services, advice, and advocacy.

As a part of our team, your role will include:

  • Lead, manage, coordinate and participate in the provision of expert advice and the timely assessment of environmental management and impact matters (e.g. noise quality, air quality, water quality, pollution control and waste treatment) to internal and external customers.
  • Provide leadership to staff within the Team through mentoring, coaching, training, advising, guiding, empowering and support to maximise the functional performance of the Team.
  • Proactively contribute to and assist in achieving development outcomes that ensure compliance with conditions of development approvals and aligning with Council's commitment for high quality outcomes for the community.
  • As an expert in the field of environmental management, contribute positively to Council's vision at an operational and strategic level for statutory compliance, policies, strategy, business and operational plans, change management, business decisionmaking and all other leadership initiatives.
  • Promote excellence in environmental management and impact services in the Team, including the provision of expert advice and guidance on standards and related matters.

About you
We're looking for someone who has both people and business expertise to excel in this role. Possession of recognised degree qualifications/ in environmental science, natural resource or environmental management.


Extensive interpersonal and communication skills as an experienced senior leader with particular emphasis in the areas of advocacy, liaison, consultation, building effective relationships and cohesive teams, negotiation, conflict resolution and assertiveness with the ability to meet changing organisational needs within a diverse and political environment.

"C" Class drivers' licence - there may be a requirement to travel and work from other Council offices from time to time.
