About the Opportunity


For this newly created opportunity within SAHMRI's Fundraising and Marketing division, you will be responsible for revenue generation, donor acquisition, and stewardship by creating, implementing, and evaluating multi-channel fundraising campaigns to increase donors' value and length of support.


Reporting into the Head of Fundraising and Marketing, you will steer campaigns, manage existing donor relationships, and proactively identify new relationships to grow consistent revenue streams supporting research at SAHMRI.

The Fundraising Manager will also lead a small team to acquire, renew, upgrade, and thank donors at all levels and be responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of the donor database.

Your key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Acting with initiative to create, develop and implement multi-channel fundraising programs to increase philanthropic revenue
  • Designing and implementing strategies to acquire, engage, renew, upgrade, acknowledge and thank donors at all levels
  • Liaising with marketing roles to create tailored and appropriate communication journeys
  • Liaising with the events and engagement roles to create donor events and activities
  • Managing the Fundraising Assistant in their role of managing the donor database
  • Managing the Philanthropic Grants Coordinator to drive income from trusts and foundations
  • Working with the VIPdonor and Bequest Manager to drive engagement strategies to increase the value and length of support from current and prospective supporters
  • Assist with delivering community BRIGHT Week events successfully
  • Preparing reports and evaluating campaign successes

About You


To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced fundraiser with a proven track record of donor-centric fundraising and stakeholder management in a not-for-profit setting.

With a strong people-focussed approach, you will have a history of achieving significant revenue targets and a demonstrated ability to create and lead the execution of successful direct mail appeals, donor circles and regular giving programs.


Working closely within a small team, flexibility, adaptability, and a can-do attitude are critical for this varied role, and we're looking for someone who is passionate about building meaningful relationships with people at all levels.

In addition to the above, to be successful in this role you will have/be:

  • Minimum 3+ years in a fundraising role
  • Demonstrated experience using social media and other channels to drive fundraising income
  • Experience implementing and maintaining a detailed donor database, including administration, segmentation and analysis
  • Ability to lead and manage projects independently and in teams to meet demanding timelines and expectations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a clear, communicative and collaborative style and the ability to form strong relationships with a diverse range of people
  • Possess the ability to identify philanthropic opportunities and develop them into potential support
  • Excellent attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of engaging and recognising supporters in an appropriate manner
  • Current Australian Driver's Licence

It would also be great if you:

  • Have a relevant tertiary qualification
  • Have previous experience managing staff
  • Are a member of FIA or similar fundraising organisation

  • Some outofhours work may be required
  • DCSI Employment Screening and Police Checks may be required
