  • Right now, we have an exciting opportunity for an
    Image Specialist to join us in the Brand and Marketing team within the Customer Strategy and Technology division.


The Image Specialist supports the Historical Archive Digitisation Project with collection management and documentation tasks to ensure proper physical and intellectual control of historical photographic assets.


Key tasks include collection transcription, documentation and description for physical and digital assets, to specified standards; object handling and packaging for storage; digital asset management and updating project documentation.


The ideal applicant will have collection registration, archives, cataloguing or digital asset management experience as well as high attention to detail in performing repetitive tasks.

The position is responsible for cataloguing, curating and digitising a large archive of historical analogue photography assets.


Key accountabilities

  • Responsible for maintaining and accessing our photographic archive which is made up of 6 different cataloguing systems that contain over 250,000 photographic negatives and transparencies.
  • Recataloguing the existing 6 historical cataloguing systems into one succinct system to ensure all photographs are returned to their original order and all "like" photographic topics are stored and then able to be curated and digitised together.
  • Curating a catalogued collection of images by determining the highest quality of the analogue assets to be digitised.
  • Accurately and with ahigh attention to detail allocating the physical assets with a unique ID number before preparing assets to be digitised using high end professional scanning machinery.
  • Accurately and with a high attention to detail, digitally transcribe the physical assets unique ID numbers to the corresponding digital files.
  • Preparing and packing the analogue collection made up of digitised and nondigitised assets and their corresponding digital files for handover to our Records Cataloguers who will follow your instruction to transcribe all metadata from physical assets into digital form.
  • Packaging of analogue assets post digitisation for long term archival storage and handover to relevant government archival institutions.
  • Model collegiate and collaborative behaviours to achieve the greater good for the community, celebrate a diverse workforce, create an environment where people can create and thrive, or support people's wellbeing.

Key challenges

  • Ensuring catalogue created meets specifications and standards appropriate for material being digitised.
  • Cross referencing historical documentation with physical assets.
  • Working efficiently and accurately to maintain agreed throughputs.
  • Performing repetitive tasks that require a high level of attention and critical thinking.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Experience with shooting, processing and handling analogue photographic film.
  • Experience operating Hasselblad X5 scanners.
  • Experience curating, selecting and editing images
  • Experience with digital asset management systems.

Essential requirements

  • Experience as a professional photographer and developing and handling analogue photographic film.
  • Experience operating Hasselblad X5 scanners.
  • High level of experience with Apple Macintosh operating systems and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and formulas.
  • A high level or organisation and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
