About the Role


The Labour Deployment Specialist has key accountability to ensure that labour requirements are available to support effective delivery of service for customers as per the agreed plan and contract.

In this role you will act on the current labour resources, whilst simultaneously adjusting and extending the planning horizon, you will support the design and development of system or process changes to drive innovation and celebrate team success, thriving for a high performing positive team culture.

This position will be working on a leave relief roster, you will receive your roster 9 days prior to next 28-day roster cycle.


Primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Effective & efficient deployment of labour resources to meet the customer service plan
  • Identifying opportunities to minimise cost & improve utilisation in service delivery
  • Extensive knowledge of EAs and Flex labour contracts
  • As a specialist, you will provide expertise for other Service Delivery team members as required on decisions impacting labour made in the live environment
  • Ensure compliance to Crew templates across various customer services
  • Responsible for implementing a crew program, updating working roster with ancillary tasks, and dealing with variations to the daily roster
  • Responsible for planning and allocating vehicles and accommodation in a manner which minimises waste
  • Responsible for consulting with stakeholders to ensure the allocation of crew and tasks meet operational requirements
- updating data into the rostering system to ensure working roster is aligned to leave and training requirements

  • Adhere to processes that ensure the timely and consistent flow of information that exceeds customer expectations.
  • Assist in developing innovative planning solutions
  • Support initiatives that improve the utilisation of Pacific Nationals labour and assets.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Service Delivery roles
  • Extensive understanding of local geographic conditions, e.g., customers, network, load points
  • Relevant tertiary or vocational qualifications or similar desirable
  • Relevant demonstrated experience in service delivery environment, and customer focused operations
  • Demonstrated experience in complex rail operations or other relevant heavy industry
  • Experience in short term labour and or asset planning and rostering
  • Exposure to safety and or customer management systems
  • Good knowledge of risk management, safety systems and legislative requirements for rail haulage
  • Demonstrated stakeholder engagement and communication skills to negotiate, influence and resolve conflict within a dynamic and complex environment
  • Ability to work autonomously under broad direction and direct own work to meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, intermediate Microsoft Office package and computer literacy skills
