An exciting opportunity exists for exceptional Principal House Officer to join our Hospital in the Home team.

The Principal House Officer (Hospital in the Home) provides high value patient centred care for Hospital in the Home (HITH) patients.

This is a rare opportunity to gain experience in virtual health care, where acute medical care is delivered in a patient's home or home equivalent.

There is ample opportunity for education and research in virtual health care, and this activity is encouraged.

The SCHHS provides healthcare to a rapidly growing population.

There has been significant investment in services over the past few years, in particular the establishment of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and the Nambour General Hospital redevelopment.

The SCHHS also delivers services through hospitals in Gympie, Caloundra and Maleny.

In addition, the SCHHS operates a residential aged care facility in Nambour and provides community health services and community mental health services through a range of stand-alone facilities located across the Sunshine Coast region.


Key Responsibilities include:

  • Embrace the three underlying principles of HITH:
  • Care is of benefit to the patient and their family
  • Care provided is of medically high value
  • Care can be safely done in the patient's home/community environment
  • Provide medical care for patients admitted to the Hospital in the Home programme as per the normal procedures and policies of acute medical care in the SCHHS and Queensland Health with additional policies and procedures unique to the Home environment
  • Follow defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Salary rates:
$4, $4,982.00 p.f., employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (L- L7) (temporary full-time position, 76 hrs p.f. for 6 months). Applications will remain current for the duration of the vacancy.
