About Intensive Care:


Austin Health ICU is a Level 3 tertiary unit providing complex, multidisciplinary support to a broad range of patients including liver transplant, spinal injured patients, neurosurgical, cardiothoracic and liver failure.

The ICU also offers ward support via the Critical Care Outreach team,and has a strong research and teaching culture.


About the program/role:


The Intensive Care Unit Transition to Specialty Practice (TSP) Program is designed to introduce nurses to the critical care environment, and follows a well-established professional development framework which supports transitional pathways to Intensive Care.

Nurses will attend study days, in conjunction with experiential learning, and be supported by the Clinical Education team who have a passion for supporting new learners, and a wealth of experience delivering successful education programs.

This 12-month fixed term position is ideal for junior nurses with recent experience in acute medical and surgical nursing.

As an ICU Transition to Specialty Practice Nurse, a regular day will see you:

  • Assist with medical and diagnostic procedures carried out within the unit
  • Accurately document, observe and report relevant nursing findings
  • Plan, prioritise and implement holistic patient care
  • Complete all program requirements as set by the education team

About you:

You will be someone with excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to self-development and education. You'll enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team, and have a commitment to quality, best practice, and environmental safety


You'll further have:

  • Registered Nurse AHPRA registration
  • Recent acute nursing experience
  • A patientcentred approach to care delivery
