Stantec is growing in Australia and is on the lookout for a Technical Leader to join our Queensland Transport Delivery team.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to play a huge part in the success of the team by imparting your knowledge and experience and help to shape our future.

This role is crucial for driving technical excellence within the transport delivery team of which will bolster our industry presence.

As a key player, you will be instrumental in enhancing project delivery and aligning technical efforts across the business centre.


By becoming part of a dynamic team poised for growth, you will take on a central role in leading, developing, and upholding technical excellence within our Transport Delivery team, sustaining our client relationships, and seizing new business opportunities.

Your responsibilities will include overseeing the technical aspects of intricate transport infrastructure projects (predominantly in the road and highway space) while fostering a collaborative environment with team members to achieve successful results.

Additionally, you will provide mentorship and guidance to the team to cultivate a well-balanced skill set, ensuring dedication, transparent communication, and unity within the team.


Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Shape and improve the technical output and direction of our team of talented engineers, designers and drafters in the design, review and delivery of a wide range of transport infrastructure projects, including interstate/international projects as required.
  • Work alongside our business development team, assisting to identify and secure work, and help forge strong collaborative relationships with clients, authorities and contractors.
  • Lead and oversee the technical delivery of complex and/or major projects to ensure deliverables meet or exceed client and project expectations including resolving any technical issues that arise.
  • Liaise with project managers and designers to ensure designs are within scope and comply with relevant standards and conditions.
  • Provide individual, team and technical leadership and coaching to members of the local team to ensure project performance and career development opportunities for individuals to reach their full potential.
  • Lead and foster a culture of continuous technical, procedural and QA improvement within the context of your projects.
  • Execution of project design, documentation and contract administration services including regular project reviews, liaison with Client and consultant team, liaison with authorities, reporting and site construction monitoring.

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, accredited as RPEQ, and ideally as CPEng

years' experience within roads and highways with knowledge of technical standards and industry practice, with a strong focus on QLD-based authority requirements (Department of Transport and Main Roads, and Local Government).


  • Experience in road design with knowledge of Austroads Guide to Road Design, ideally TMR Design Guidelines and relevant local council standard, and relevant local council standards.
  • Passion for mentoring, coaching, and sharing technical acumen with the team.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading technical design and working with major clients in transport infrastructure projects.
  • Proven track record of managing largescale engineering projects successfully.
  • Experience in strategic business planning and execution at a national or regional level.
