Team overview:
Finity's Perils & Climate Practice helps our clients understand the financial risks arising from natural perils, climate physical risk and climate transition risk; and develop strategies and governance to manage those risks.
This includes advising insurers on pricing for those perils, assisting banks to assess their exposure to climate risk today and in future, and helping governments and asset owners to understand the risks and opportunities that arise from climate.
Clients use data from our industry leading models for cyclone, flood, bushfire, storms and coastal hazards to drive data-based insights and strategies.
We also advise on transition risks - the economic shocks caused by a transition to net zero, and assist companies in developing strategies to manage these shocks to their customers and their business.
We also work with insurance clients to help them assess emissions from their supply chains and develop approaches to decarbonisation.
Key responsibilities:
- Supporting client projects on assessing climate physical and transition risk using our models and data
- Writing reports and presentations for clients based on our analysis
- Working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
- Developing our perils and climate models, including ongoing work to integrate latest scientific research, improved methods, and new data sources
- Developing new models for the impact of climate change on transport, households, and other sectors
- Writing papers for external presentations and our regular climate blogs for our clients
Key selection criteria:
- Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Climate and Atmospheric Science, or similar degrees bachelors, masters or PhD
- Strong quantitative analysis skills, including experience with R or similar software
- Collaborative working in a client focussed consulting environment
- Excellent writing skills are highly desirable
- Training or experience in
one or more
but not all of the following areas: - Understanding of GHG/carbon accounting and decarbonisation strategies
- o Analysis of flood, cyclone, coastal, storm, bushfire or other perils, with hazard model building being highly desirable
- o Resilience, energy efficiency and other climate adaptation strategies, particularly for the built environment
- o Implementation of TCFD, ISSB and other climate reporting frameworks for companies
