The EnergyAustralia Way
The Energy industry is undergoing a radical and exciting transformation.

As one of Australia's largest generators and retailers of electricity, we are stepping up to 'light the way' towards a cleaner energy future.

As such, it's a fantastic time to join us as we continue to evolve and provide energy solutions for Australians now and into the future.

Our Transition

We are actively transitioning our portfolio and have committed to new projects across pumped hydro storage, battery storage and hybrid gas/hydrogen peaking capacity.

These flexible and dispatchable assets will help to firm variable renewables and ensure the 'trilema' of reliability, affordability and decarbonisation can be achieved as ageing coal generators retire.

This is a role at the pointy end of market transition, with an opportunity to directly influence market outcomes.

About the role

In this exciting permanent opportunity, you will join the Future Portfolio Analysis team where you will work with a passionate and collaborative team who are focussed on the National Electricity Market transitioning to a low emissions grid with high levels of renewable energy and storage.

You will lead the development of the future energy supply portfolio, support portfolio optimisation decisions and be actively involved in business cases for new investments.

  • Develop and test potential future energy supply portfolios as the NEM and EnergyAustralia's portfolio transition over time
  • Lead quantitative modelling and risk analysis of EnergyAustralia's future portfolio across medium to longterm market scenarios
  • Lead quantitative modelling and analysis to support decision making regarding the optimisation of EnergyAustralia's portfolio over different time horizons
  • Analyse the impact of new developments on retail hedging costs and risks

About You
To be successful in the role, you will have an understanding and passion for the wholesale energy market. You will be naturally analytical, inquisitive and have strong commercial acumen. You will also have strong quantitative and data skills.

This role will give you the opportunity to learn or further develop electricity market modelling skills using Plexos simulation software.

  • A minimum of five years' experience with energy markets
  • Ability to influence and challenge stakeholders at all levels to optimise project and business outcomes
  • Exceptional commercial/business acumen with experience in writing papers and reports for executive audiences
  • Ability to put structure and framing around complex and ambiguous problem statements
  • Experience with risk management products such as financial derivatives and insurance products
  • Strong data handling, management and analysis skills and experience with Tableau or cloudbased data tools such as Databricks
  • Tertiary qualifications in a quantitative discipline eg Engineering, Science, Finance, Data Analytics
  • We're committed to providing an inclusive culture so our employees can bring their whole selves to work and have a sense of belonging. From our PRISM network that creates a positive culture for LGBTQ+ employees to our Reconciliation Action Plan that has commitments to strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations, it's a workplace where everyone's welcome._
