Reporting into the Category Manager for Homewares, the
Design Manager is responsible for developing and executing the Myer Exclusive Brands (MEBs) product strategy for an exciting portfolio of Homewares.


  • Use your seasoned Design and Product Development experience to design and develop our Exclusive Homewares Brands in collaboration with the buying team
  • Mentor and lead a small creative and high performing team
  • Flexible work arrangements, with hybrid role between office and WFH

About the role:


  • Develop design direction for Home MEB Brands, including overarching mood and trend boards, colour stories and flow, print research and development, and constantly sourcing new fabrics and trims
  • To evolve, develop and have a strong understanding of the brand DNAs in conjunction with the buying team
  • Oversee and sign off ranges to ensure they are developed in line with strategic direction and trend guidance, ensuring alignment across categories and that speed to market and margin opportunities are maximised
  • Working with buyers on new sourcing opportunities to push the brands handwriting forward develop appropriate qualities, sampling and pricing.
  • Maintaining solid competitor and trend analysis to remain relevant and build a range to suit the market and Myer customer segmentation
  • Develop and deliver product strategies for each brand/category within the portfolio, with direct links to Myer's overall strategy and relevant customer segments
  • Uses an intricate knowledge of product construction and price architecture to optimise product profitability
  • Advanced understanding of the market, customer segmentation, trends and competitive landscape
  • Lead team to high performance through regular and effective coaching, feedback, mentoring and training and development opportunities
  • Accountable for establishing good supplier relationships to drive brand performance and deliver on key metrics
  • Interprets and analyses financial information for successful operation of the business

About you:


  • 23 years' experience in buying or product development, design or retail equivalent
  • Bachelor degree/diploma in one of the following fields would be preferable but not essential: Fashion Textiles and Merchandising, Fashion Merchandise Management, Interior Design, Commerce, Marketing, Retail Management, Business Management
  • Advanced understanding of the market, customer segmentation, trends and competitive landscape
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing process and production technical experience
  • Strong technical, financial and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to develop supplier relationships both local and internationally
  • Retail, financial and business acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a small sized team
  • Ability to influence leaders
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suits, such as Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop
