This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. What you'll be doing
An exciting opportunity to join the NBMLHD team as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner on a permanent full time basis.

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will work in partnership with Primary Care and Community Health (PCCH) and within a multidisciplinary healthcare team to achieve better health outcomes for Aboriginal patients & their families

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will also provide cultural support, education & referral for Aboriginal clients and act as a liaison between Aboriginal families and the health service


An eligibility list may be created for future permanent full or part time and temporary full or part time vacancies.

Salary Packaging:


Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases:

All NSW Health workers are now required to have received 2 doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine or have an approved medical contraindication certificate. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination
status if successful.


To be eligible for employment with NBMLHD you must be: an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or a citizen of another country with an appropriate visa that allows you to work in Australia.

If you currently hold a temporary visa that allows you to live and work in Australia you may only be offered employment in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.


Selection criteria to be addressed:


  • This is an identified Aboriginal position. Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District considers that being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW. Applicants must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community.
  • Has undertaken or is willing to undertake a minimum Certificate III Aboriginal Primary Health Care (including undergoing recognition of prior learning processes against current qualifications). Being female is a genuine occupational qualification for this position as described under Section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW)
  • Demonstrated understanding of the health issues impacting on Aboriginal clients & their families.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and to liaise/negotiate with other health professionals to facilitate and promote culturally sensitive health care.
  • Ability to work autonomously within the scope of practice and plan and prioritise workload effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated effective written & verbal communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • Current NSW State driver's licence (including P1 or above) and willingness to use for work purposes. This may include driving long distances across the LHD.
