About the Opportunity
The Supervising Fisheries Officer reports to the Regional Manager within their region.

They are responsible for leading and managing a compliance operations team in delivering the full range of Fisheries strategies, programs and services in their operational area and in State-wide operations and projects as required.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Effectively supervise and provide leadership to fisheries officers by:
  • leading and supporting individuals to achieve their potential and contribute to organisational goals and outcomes
- training, developing and providing welfare needs including the development, monitoring and assessment of staff performance plans
- managing and monitoring specific objectives in annual operational plans relating to the area of responsibility

  • Liaise with and provide authoritative advice to senior management, industry, local government, other like agencies both state and federal, community groups and other stakeholders with respect to the sustainable and responsible use of fish resources.
  • Provide authoritative advice and support to the Regional Manager on policy, planning, programming and performance monitoring issues associated with or effecting delivery of Fisheries and boating programs within the region or Statewide as required.
  • Lead the station planning and delivery of education and enforcement activities, including community engagement and prevention, surveillance, land and vesselbased inspections, investigations, operations and legal proceedings related to the delivery of legislative requirements associated with the sustainable and responsible use of fish resources and protection of their habitats.
Desirable

  • A tertiary qualification in one of the following areas: natural resource management, fisheries, criminal justice/criminology, or law.
  • A current NC1 (Inshore Waters) Coxswain certificate (with boating experience across a variety of conditions and vessels).
Specific role requirements

  • Must hold a current unrestricted Drivers Licence
  • A Diploma in Seafood Industry (Compliance) or Diploma in Government (Investigations) or demonstration of equivalent competencies
  • A relevant recreational vessel licence with PWC endorsement.
  • A current NC2 (Sheltered Waters) Coxswain certificate or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of employment
  • Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate or equivalent
