About the Position


The creation of the new Payroll Coordinator role offers the right applicant a rare and unique opportunity to be an important part of our ambitious and exciting implementation of a new Enterprise Human Resource Information System.


Collaboration with People and Culture Team members and supporting line managers and all City employees in matters related to payroll is imperative.

Working closely with the Finance Team to ensure the appropriate controls and audits are in place is also important.

The Payroll Coordinator supports the City by:

  • Leading, supporting, and developing the Payroll Team to ensure timely, efficient, and accurate delivery of payroll services to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensuring payroll transaction processing is completed fortnightly and at the end of the financial year, including external requirements for entities such as the ATO, Superannuation and Workers Compensation.
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining payroll operating procedures, controls, templates, verification and compliance processes to ensure an accurate and reliable payroll function.
  • Ensuring payroll remuneration practices comply with relevant legislation and regulations, including payroll administration of executive and negotiated contracts
  • Anticipating and advising on the impact of external changes on the organisation's delivery of payroll services.
  • Continually reviewing process rigour and compliance through regular process and transaction audits to ensure compliance and accuracy of processing.


To be successful in this role you will have extensive experience coordinating the delivery of payroll services in medium to large-sized organisations with end-to-end payroll production knowledge and skill.

You will also have expertise in payroll business continuity and implementing effective payroll processes.
