The Opportunity


The School of Chemical Engineering has an opportunity for a Business Manager where you will be working in the NSW Decarbonisation Hub.

As the Business Manager you will be responsible for the identification, development and management of projects for the Power Fuels including Hydrogen Network (PFHN), cross-network projects with the other two networks, as well as representing the Network to partners and industry.


This is a highly collaborative role where you will lead the Network's efforts in identifying new engagement opportunities with government and industry partners that lead to commissioned innovation projects and commercialisation of intellectual property.

Operationally, you will be involved in project development and management of the projects and programs for the Network, co-ordinating with the Hub Manager and the Hub staff.

As the Business Manager you will leverage internal and external strategic relationships with relevant industry sectors and governments to generate knowledge exchange pathways.


This role reports to the Leader of the Power Fuels including Hydrogen Network (Scientia Professor Rose Amal) and has no direct reports.


  • Salary, Level 9: $ 130,350 to $ 138,314 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Full time
  • Fixed term contract 12 months with possible extension

Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline and/or extensive relevant knowledge gained through relevant experience
  • Demonstrated track record of achievement in developing and closing technology and R&D related business deals including research partnerships (contract, collaborative, consulting) and IP commercialisation (licences, spinout/startups, IP)
  • Significant experience and valueadd networks in a relevant industry sector aligned with Network's research capability and strengths.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team to achieve set targets and key performance indicators.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify appropriate and relevant training and capability development to research and/or academic community
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and writing business case for industry, government and external end user partner audiences.
  • Proactive and motivated with strong stakeholder and relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge in financial management and proven ability to interpret financial data to provide strategic advice.
  • Proven skills and experience in strategic and resource planning, goal setting and project management.
  • Superior communication skills and demonstrated high level interpersonal skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills and persuasive communication skills.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
