Tax Specialist - Investment Industry - Private Equity (APS- EL2)
Our client is a large government body.

They have exciting opportunities for Tax and Risk Specialists to join the Investment Industry Strategy Team with a specialism in Private Equity.


We are seeking tax professionals with specific industry knowledge about the taxation framework and policy settings in the investment and/or private euity, or specialist accounting knowledge for the insurance industry.


Who they are?

  • The Investment Industry teams have overall oversight and management of 3 key areas:
  • Private equity and collective investment vehicles.
  • Superannuation large APRA regulated superannuation funds,


  • Insurance

  • APRA regulated insurers; and


The teams provide strategic leadership and advice in the delivery of key programs as working with industry and other agencies to ensure the efficient and effective regulation of these entities.

This includes working with the Treasury and other government agencies.


What they do:

- manage advice and guidance to our clients.
- manage tax risks at a population level.

  • IIS design and administer compliance and assurance products including Top 1,000 compliance products and tailored reviews.
- provide technical support to operational case teams on a needs basis.
- seek to design new and innovative ways to provide advice/guidance to clients.

  • IIS works with regulators including ASIC and APRA to consult and support the development and administration of the law

Private Equity:


  • The
    Private Equity teams maintain responsibility for oversight of Private Equity (PE) investments in Australia. They work with our Private Wealth group to deliver a holistic approach to the private equity population.
  • They also have oversight of certain collective investment vehicles such as managed investment trusts (MIT), attribution managed investment trusts (AMIT), Corporate Collective Investment Vehicles (CCIVs) and pension funds, and lead the organisation's infrastructure strategy which focuses on tax risk and compliance in relation to Australian infrastructure assets.
  • They provide strategic leadership and tactical support to assurance and compliance programs impacting the PE population to ensure entities are meeting their tax and reporting obligations.
  • They provide support to industry bodies to help ensure the efficient and effective regulation of the PE population. Their work encompasses the design and implementation of a data driven strategy and supporting Treasury and Government in policy and law design.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in one or more of the following:
  • taxation and superannuation laws and policy for large APRA regulated superannuation funds; or detailed industry knowledge of investment structures and investment of assets; or
- taxation and policy related to the insurance industry, or specialist accounting expertise relevant to the insurance industry; or
- taxation laws and policy related to private equity, collective investment vehicles, infrastructure or pension funds, or specialist accounting, legal or financial expertise relevant to the private equity population.

  • The ability to research and critically analyses information, considers alternatives and identifies effective solutions to address current and emerging issues in relation to superannuation funds, the insurance industry, private equity or collective investment vehicles.
  • Strong leadership skills, particularly on technical issues, oversees the provision of specialist advice by others and proactively develops less experienced staff.
  • The ability to form strong working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing, to provide authoritative, accurate advice on the law or accounting issues as appropriate.
  • Recognised qualifications in a tax, business or lawrelated discipline would be highly regarded.
  • Recognised experience within industry or a Big 4, midtier professional services, large legal firm or inhouse role in a multinational corporate tax environment (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
