The Opportunity

  • We are looking for a Resource Planner to provide resource planning support to the Rail Operations teams to deliver optimised crewing plans that maximise the efficient and safe use of people resources across Rail.
  • Working part time with flexibility in work hours and reporting to the Superintendent, Planning & Logistics, your key accountabilities will include:
  • Manage all aspects of the Rail Operations crewing roster from publication down to execution.
  • Ensure all required changes to flights and accommodation are managed accurately and in line with business deadlines to minimise operational costs.
  • Ensure the final roster complies with all rostering principles and fatigue management guidelines.
  • Ensure rosters are optimised to maximise the utilisation of resources to deliver the rail plan.
  • Provide quality customer service and stakeholder management to a range of stakeholders across the division.
  • Work with Operations and other stakeholder teams to implement improvements initiatives.

What you'll bring

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in Operational / Production / Planning & Scheduling functions
  • Excellent problem solving, organisational skills and stakeholder management skills
  • Selfmotivated and have the ability to work independently
  • A continuous improvement mindset and ability to offer and implement solutions in dynamic environment

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Relevant experience in railway logistics
  • Experience with Rio Tinto operational systems
  • Broader system knowledge of Mine and Port interfaces
  • Experience in systems and tools development & analytical capabilities

Where you'll be working
This role is based at our Perth operations centre located at Perth Airport.


Our integrated iron ore network is supported by our Operations Centre (OC) in Perth, a state-of-the-art facility that enables all the autonomous trucks, trains and drills at our mines, ports and rail systems to be operated from a single location.

The Centre incorporates visualisation and collaboration tools to provide real-time information across our demand chain and allows us to optimise our mining, maintenance and logistic activities across the Pilbara in a way never before possible.

Located near the Perth domestic airport, the OC operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to coordinate our integrated network of mines, rail, and ports from 1,500km away
