About the role

The Strategic Communications Specialist provides strategic communications advice and writing expertise to deliver targeted, relevant, engaging, informative and effective communications to internal and/or external audiences across a range of communication channels.


Specifically you will:

  • Work collaboratively with highlevel University stakeholders, relevant staff and areas to advise on, develop and implement detailed internal communications strategies for key University priorities;
  • Develop, deliver and implement communication and engagement strategies to promote Curtin University, protect reputation, manage crises and issues, and deliver successful projects;
  • Have demonstrated ability to identify, research and analyse complex problems, risks, and emerging opportunities, formulate appropriate solutions and provide high level strategic advice;
  • Help deliver internal and external communication strategies for Curtin University, identifying opportunities and risks early, developing and implementing messaging, Q&As and engagement plans with appropriate measures of success;
  • Develop a sound understanding of the University and build trusted internal relationships that support the delivery of highly effective strategic communication and engagement outcomes;
  • Edit and oversee the distribution of a range of internal communications to maximise staff engagement;
  • Coordinate and compile board reports and annual reports;
  • Implement best practice approaches and methods to communication and engagement, that takes into account new technologies, employee beliefs, attitudes and preferences; and
  • Contribute to organisational communication activities including briefing notes, speeches and other communication requirements.

About you

This is a busy role which will suit someone who has quality experience in corporate communications, preferably in the higher education space.

You will be passionate about communicating on a range of complex and nuanced issues at all levels and will enjoy working in a team of dynamic and talented communications professionals.

You will have exceptional written communication skills, with experience in developing and implementing communication strategies and/or collateral (e.g. speeches, briefing notes, articles and publication content) which bring your audiences on the journey and gives them a sense of participation.

Curtin University's Corporate Communications area provides communications support for the Vice-Chancellor's office and for key strategic projects of the University.

It is also involved in the management of communications issues, oversees University-wide internal communications and works closely with the Media Relations team.
