About the Section:
The Strategy and Coordination Section provides strategic advice on complex policy problems that cut across the ACCU Scheme.

It is the central point of contact for a number of key functions including providing the agency's input into new ACCU methods, that determine the rules and eligible activities for running an ACCU Scheme project.

The team has lead responsibility for implementing changes for the ACCU Scheme including supporting transparency of co-benefits associated with ACCUs.

The team coordinates the Division's participation in events for the ACCU Scheme.

The section maintains strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, particularly the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water that develops the ACCU methods, CER assessment teams that register and issue ACCUs to ACCU Scheme projects and Legal Services and Governance Branch that provides legal advice as required.

As a key consultation point for legislative changes that impact the agency, you will gain experience in understanding the development of legislation.

You will also work with a large stakeholder base and build knowledge of regulatory practice and policy.

The work involves complex problems that require and develop creative and logical thinking that delivers outcomes in terms of emissions reductions, and co-benefits such as biodiversity and supporting indigenous communities.


Role responsibilities and duties:


  • Support, promote and guide continuous improvement and capability build within the section's functions. In doing so, they will exercise good judgement and lead others to do the same.
  • Support the section manager and senior executive by providing strategic input on how to approach complex and technical policy problems that affect the Scheme Operations Division.
  • Provide support to the ACCU Scheme assessment teams that is timely and fit for purpose.
  • Manage small teams, including development of team members and managing performance.
  • Support the section's to identify and appropriately manage changes to ACCU Scheme regulatory policy and legislative changes.
  • Build strong networks with colleagues across the agency and with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, external clients, and stakeholders.

Qualifications/experience:

We are seeking a wide range of skills and experience to complement our multidisciplinary team.


A completed bachelor's degree or higher in law, land or environmental management, ecology, economics, engineering, or other related fields is desirable but not essential.


The following demonstrated experiences are highly desirable:

  • Experience in providing advice to Senior Leadership and solving complex policy problems.
  • Providing leadership in a technical environment on issues within specialist areas that require considerable analysis, sometimes under tight timeframes.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills and representing the agency in public forums.
  • Experience in managing a team who are organised and adaptable to change, including the ability to multitask and prioritise.
  • Collaboration with peers across the agency and external to achieve results.
