The Role
The role of the APS 2 Administration Officer is to provide administrative support to the IAM Senior Aviation Medical Officers in the processing and dissemination of specialist medical advice for ADF Aviation Related Occupation members


Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of straightforward documentation.
  • Accessing electronic health records to obtain clinical information.
  • Formatting written guidance in accordance with the Defence Writing Manual.
  • Performance of document handling tasks including correct filing and storage practices to maintain sensitive personal data security.
  • Maintenance of database and electronic files.
  • Entering sensitive inconfidence data into Defence Record Systems (ie. Share Point).
  • Monitoring and managing the Clinical Flight electronic mailbox and responding to enquiries.
  • Liaison with Defence stakeholders (ie Health Establishments, Recruiting Centres and Career Management Agencies).
  • Preparation of statistical data pertaining to Clinical Flight activity.
  • Review and maintenance of procedural documents for administration tasks.
  • Maintenance of Clinical Flight documents on the IAM webpage.

About our Team

  • The role of Clinical Flight at the RAAF Institute of Aviation Medicine is to assist in optimising aviation health and performance across the ADF.
  • This includes assessing medical conditions that arise amongst aviation members and providing specialist advice on the impact this has to the member's ability to perform and execute aviation related duties.
  • Clinical Flight determine medical and specialist employment category classifications relating to aviation related occupation members and also provide input into aviation medical reviews.
  • Clinical Flight conducts approx. 4000 clinical reviews annually.
  • Knowledge of administrative and office procedures. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe.
  • Ability and eagerness to learn processes quickly in a fastpaced environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a high volume of requests and meet time sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a professional team environment, but also to work autonomously in an effective manner.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to familiarise with Defence protocol, procedure and policy (ie

Defence Health Manual:
Military Personnel Manual) and execute in a professional manner in the workplace.
