    The Prevention Division aims to prevent cancer for all Victorians.

    This is done through community interventions, mass media, advocacy, training and providing policy advice based on the best available evidence.

    This involves action to affect individual behaviours and the broader physical and legislative environment to reduce cancer risk.
    We prioritise health inequalities, especially in relation to Aboriginal people, and in culturally diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged communities.

    This is achieved through the delivery of public health programs relating to tobacco control (Quit Victoria), obesity prevention (Live Lighter, Food Fight, Food for Health Alliance, Rethink Sugary Drink), sun protection (Sun Smart, World Health Organisation Collaborative Centre for UV), cancer screening (bowel, breast and cervical), immunisation, (HPV, hepatitis B) alcohol and organisational change (Achievement Program, Vic Kids Eat Well).

    About your opportunity
    We are seeking a Senior Communications and Advocacy Advisor to join the Prevention Division.
    Reporting to the Head of Media and Communications your role is to:

    Drive Impact:

    Develop communication plans, in partnership with the program team, to build support for the program's regulatory and policy reform priorities with state, territory and national governments.


    Foster Collaboration:
    Collaborate with other Prevention programs and stakeholders to achieve Cancer Council Victoria's strategic objectives, maximising communication effectiveness.

    Leadership Opportunity:
    Coach, inspire and empower the Obesity Prevention and Sun Smart communications Teams.

    Create Change:

    Work with marketing to develop, implement and evaluate social marketing interventions, ensuring they are theory informed and evidence led.

    All about you

    We are looking for someone with:
    Relevant tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, journalism or a related discipline/and/or substantial experience in a related field
    Extensive experience in media and communications, within government, not-for-profit and/or public health environments.

    Strong media advocacy skills and experience with a solid understanding of state and federal politics, government structures, policy processes, and regulatory environments.

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely.
    Strong organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks
    What we can offer you
    Base salary of $95,158 to $112,603 p.a.
    (dependant on experience, pro rata for part time) plus 11% superannuation
