Salary range:
$85,906 to $93,915 per annum + 12.5% superannuation. Partial relocation assistance may be available for this role (conditions apply).

_ Are you passionate about workplace safety and eager to foster a culture of proactive health management? __We are seeking a dynamic Work Health and Safety Advisor to join our team. With your expertise, we'll build a safer work environment and enhance our commitment to employee well-being. Join us in making a meaningful impact every day._**These roles contribute to the success of the City by coordinating and implementing the Work Health and Safety program and Work Health and Safety activities to reduce the risk of injury or illness to employees, contractors and visitors in Council workplaces.


Role accountabilities include:

  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of effective WHS policies and procedures that will comprise an integrated and functional safety management system.
  • Coordinate the investigation of WHS incidents and hazards including losttime or other serious incidents. Ensure completion of all necessary documentation and liaise with risk management to ensure full and proper response to issues involving WHS risk. When required liaise with the ReturntoWork Coordinator.
  • Support the activities of WHS committees by attendance at committee meetings and the provision of advice in line with Council's WHS Strategy and Plan.
  • Actively support a planned system of WHS audits and inspections. Ensure completion of all necessary documentation. Follow up with the Manager or Supervisor concerned on corrective actions arising from WHS audits or inspections.
  • Promote employee awareness of WHS issues and safe working practices and assist with the identification of WHS training needs, mentoring, coaching and facilitating of program leaders and supervisors and delivery of training programs aimed at WHS issues, WHS risk management and improved health and fitness.
  • Prepare reports on WHS matters as required and undertake special projects.
  • Provide coaching support to employees across the organisation to effectively embed WHS policies, procedures including near misses and incidents, risk assessments, and legislative requirements and best practice models.

About you:

The desired applicants will have a Diploma or equivalent experience in WHS.

It is also preferred that they will be:

  • Knowledgeable about contemporary and emerging work health and safety issues, policies, and practices, with the ability to draft or contribute to WHS policies, procedures, risk assessments, systems, and plans.
  • Experienced in maintaining WHS records and proficient in using Microsoft Office products and WHSspecific databases.
  • Understanding of work health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and the Australian Standard AS/NZS ISO 45001:2018 is valued.
  • Proficient in preparing WHS incident investigations and audits, including ICAM investigation and WHS auditor training or equivalent.
  • Capable of clear communication to meet the needs of both management and employees, facilitating appropriate decisionmaking.
