Jarrahdale, WA**
Role Purpose:To assist in the daily maintenance of Parks and Reserves, roads, drainage, reticulation systems and other works within the Shire town sites and surrounds.

To operate plant and equipment as required as part of the Shire's town maintenance workforce.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Assists team members to maintain and construct projects that enhance or modify shire roads, drainage and traffic infrastructure, township parks, sporting facilities, public open space, reserves, streets, ablutions and shire facilities.
  • Participates in Occupational Health and Safety, employee inductions and training.
  • Carries out various maintenance work under supervision.
  • Works in a team environment and assist in maintaining productivity and efficiency.
  • Operates power tools such as line trimmers, chainsaws and leaf blowers.
  • Operates selfpropelled or tractor mounted mowers or other turf maintenance equipment.
  • May operate equipment such as forklift, small excavator, front end loader, if suitably qualified.
  • Undertakes horticultural duties such as garden maintenance, pruning, replanting, mulching and litter collection.
  • Applies fertilizers, pesticides/herbicides and soil amendments to parks, gardens and reserves, as required.
  • Complies with Council's policies, procedures, processes and specifications.

Requirements of the Job:


  • Certificate III Horticulture or Parks and Gardens.
  • Previous experience within Local Government.
  • Previous experience working with water sensitive urban designs.
  • Current 'LR' Class Driver's License (applicable to Western Australia)
  • Forklift, Dogging, Rigging HRWL
  • Experience with hand tools and power operated equipment.
  • Understandings of WHS legislative requirements within the workplace.
  • Ability to undertake and follow instructions as directed.
  • Ability to work within a teambased environment under limited supervision.
  • Understanding of horticulture principles including gardening and mowing.
