An exciting opportunity exists for multiple experienced Population Health Promotion Officers to join the Western Public Health Unit (WPHU). Full/Part-time Temporary (12month) and Full/Part-time Permanant positions available.


Population Health Promotion Officers will support and coordinate improved population health and prevention efforts across the eight local government areas in the WPHU catchment.


As a key contributor to the team, you will have a chance to work in collaboration with key partners using a systems approach to deliver high impact initiatives to improve the health and wellbeing of our community; with the team's current priorities being healthy eating and food systems, reducing vaping-related harm and the impact of climate change on health.

Your role, working within the multidisciplinary public health team includes, but is not limited to, the following activities:

  • Place based health promotion and prevention at a population level;
  • Systemsbased approach to codesign of interventions
  • Focus on initiatives to reduce health inequities in the catchment
  • Partnership development and maintenance;
  • Community engagement in collaboration with the Community Engagement team within WPHU;
  • Education and other public health activities with a focus on primary prevention;
  • Outcomes based evaluation and research;
  • Effective interaction/liaison with multidisciplinary teams;
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal; and,
  • Accurate andtimely documentation.

You must have:


  • An undergraduate qualification in public health, health promotion or related health field;
  • Considerable experience (preferably more than three years) working in prevention, population health, health promotion or a related field, including evidence of work using a systems approach and collective impact to design,implementation and evaluation
  • Experience managing and leading moderatesized projects relating to prevention and health promotion; and,
  • Demonstrated ability in coordinating population health promotion activities including evidence of codesign, planning, implementation, community engagement, and outcomebased evaluation.
